Alert, TCS Launches marketStream(TM) for BlackBerry Handhelds
TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a global leader in wireless data technology, today announced that users of BlackBerry(R), developed by Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ:RIMM; TSX:RIM) have a new way to stay informed about the financial world. The marketStream(TM) service provides global, real-time streaming access to equity security prices and volume, foreign exchange rates, futures, commodities and fixed income prices, as well as news and charts via any Java(TM)-based BlackBerry handheld. The service is also compatible with mobile phones and PDAs including the Sony Ericsson P800 and P900 and wireless-enabled PocketPC devices.
The marketStream service was developed by TCS' European subsidiary, Aether Systems, Ltd. Totally wireless and with global coverage, marketStream(TM) utilizes Global Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and third generation networks to stream market data to any Java-enabled mobile device, on any network in any institution.
Unlike other financial information services for mobile devices, marketStream(TM) delivers real-time information in streaming form without user intervention. Data provided by Comstock, a division of Interactive Data Corporation, simply scrolls continuously on the screen in real-time with up-to-the-second accuracy. High-end financial traders and investment brokers now have access to real-time quotes for instruments in over 30 different markets. In addition, TCS has used its years of experience with mobile financial data to provide an extremely streamlined, simple and efficient user-interface for the marketStream(TM) service.
Alexis Davis, Vice President of Mobile Finance for TCS, comments, "We are really proud of marketStream(TM). Basically it's a desktop terminal without the desk. It is the only feature-rich, streaming wireless solution for the financial markets available as a standalone product, so users are not tied to any specific market data vendor or network. Also, because we have focused on this market for over 15 years, our excellent relationships with the Exchanges mean we provide a uniquely comprehensive range of market data. We are excited to bring it to BlackBerry."
As GPRS makes real-time streaming possible, the users of marketStream(TM) receive essential market information sooner than with paging or snapshot products. Furthermore, as a Java client designed specifically for wireless market data streaming, marketStream(TM) uses available bandwidth more efficiently than most wireless browser-based solutions. This results in a quicker and higher return on the user's investment since the user can react more rapidly to market fluctuations and make more informed trading decisions. Utilizing packet-based networks ensures the marketStream(TM) user is always connected and only pays for the volume of data sent.
Significant features of marketStream(TM) include:
-- Alerting Capability - users can set limit alerts on
instruments tracked in their watch list so they are instantly
aware of any price changes.
-- Intraday Charts - marketStream(TM) displays intraday charts
and detailed data for an individual stock index or instrument.
-- Real-time news - news stories from Dow Jones Newswires are
streamed direct in real time. News is delivered as headlines
with the option to view the full story.
TCS' technology is today's most widely used standard for delivery of wireless market data.
