Closed-end funds sells units of a company that holds a portfolio of investments. The main reasons for buying closed-end funds are:

* You get to buy quality stocks at a discount;

* Sometimes the discount narrows, even if the value of investment has not gone up you stand to benefit;

* If you hold it for the long term, the closed-end fund may wind down. In this case you get the full value of the investment, even though you bought them at a discount;

* Some closed-end funds are converted into open-end funds which means you will get the fulle value of your ivnestment as the discount will vanish. All closed-end funds listed are traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
